Colorado weather: Wind gusts up to 70 mph in the foothills Thursday

Snow will develop in the mountains late Thursday and into Friday

Wind gusts of up to 70 mph are expected along the foothills Thursday, though Denver will only see gusts reaching 15 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Mountain passes and towns are forecasted to be the most impacted by high winds on Thursday, with gusts of up to 92 mph on Longs Peak, 67 mph on Berthoud Pass, 58 mph in Estes Park, 55 mph in Nederland and 51 mph on Loveland Pass, according to the National Weather Service’s Boulder office.

Gusts in Denver will range 12 to 17 mph on Thursday and Friday, while wind gusts in Boulder will range from 23 to 31 mph on Thursday before quieting down Friday, according to the agency.

NWS issued a hazardous weather outlook on Wednesday for northeast and north central Colorado, with strong westerly winds developing in the mountains and foothills starting at midnight and lasting through Thursday evening.

Windy conditions and light snow are expected to continue in the mountains through the weekend, according to the agency.
