Denver police on Friday arrested a woman on suspicion of murder in connection to the death of her 8-year-old great-nephew.

Susan Baffour, 61, remained in the Denver Downtown Detention Center without bail on Saturday on suspicion of first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.

Denver police announced Friday morning that they were conducting a death investigation in the 1900 block of North Ulster Street. On Saturday, the department announced the death investigation had evolved into a homicide investigation.

Denver police spokesman Jay Casillas said he had no further information about the incident and that he could not provide a probable-cause affidavit Saturday.

The medical examiner’s office will announce the boy’s identity as well as the cause of death.
